During the French Revolution many guillotine executions were carried out at Place de la Concorde.  Among those executed here were Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

The city square was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1755. The Egyptian Obelisk at its centre is 3,300 years old.

The Place de la Concorde is located at the eastern end of the Champs Elysee District of Paris France.

Champs Elysees Avenue runs west from the historic square while Tuileries Gardens (Jardins des Tuileries) is situated to its east.
